Membership is open to individuals in the Interior Design profession who have fulfilled specific education, experience, examination or licensing requirements, and design-related professions. Any NDID member that retires can maintain their current membership level at the time of retirement. The membership period begins October 1st and ends September 30th the following year.  The application period ends on December 31st.

MEMBERSHIP LEVELS



PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP 

Professional members are actively engaged in the profession of Interior Design or Interior Design education. Applicants for professional membership must meet one of the following groups of standards to be a Professional member of NDID: 


  • Four-year Bachelor’s degree majoring in Interior Design, PLUS two years full-time practice with a Professional Interior Designer, PLUS have passed the NCIDQ exam. 
  • Four-year Bachelor’s degree majoring in Interior Design, PLUS two years full-time practice with a Professional Interior Designer. 
  • Minimum of seven years of experience - two or four years of post-secondary education PLUS three years minimum full-time residential kitchen/bath designer for a combined total of seven years, PLUS have passed the CKD/CBD. 
  • Architects with a four-year degree in Interior Design, PLUS two years of full-time practice with a Professional Interior Designer. 
 
ALLIED MEMBERSHIP
 

Allied members are actively engaged in the profession of Interior Design. Applicants for this membership level are working towards the education requirements of the NCIDQ, CKD/CBD exam, or equivalent. 


  • Four-year Bachelor’s degree majoring in Interior Design with less than two years of full-time practice with a Professional Interior Designer after degree achievement. 
  • Two-year Associate in Applied Science degree majoring in Interior Design PLUS four years full-time with a Professional Interior Designer. 
  • Architects that hold less than a four-year degree in Interior Design having two years of full-time practice with a Professional Interior Designer. 
ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP
  

Associate members are actively engaged in a field of expertise directly related to the Interior Design industry (lighting designers, landscape architects, architects, etc.).

 
 
STUDENT MEMBERSHIP
  

Student membership is available to those majoring in Interior Design at an accredited school and are currently enrolled full-time in either their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of Interior Design courses. 


 
INDUSTRY PARTNER MEMBERSHIP
 

Industry Partner membership is available to manufacturers, suppliers, and field representatives who support the profession of Interior Design. These members wish to network with designers and keep them informed of new product developments that affect the design profession.

 
 
RETIRED MEMBERSHIP
  

Retired membership is available to those that have retired from the Interior Design profession and want to stay connected to the industry. They will maintain their current membership level at the time of retirement.
